About the position

The SMT Circuit Board Assembly Technician position at Bluefin Innovations LLC is a full-time role based in Sterling, VA, focused on the hand soldering, assembly, and troubleshooting of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) circuit boards. The technician will be responsible for creating electrical and mechanical products that meet specified quality standards. This position requires a hands-on approach to assembling finished goods, ensuring that all components are accurately soldered and assembled according to established guidelines. The technician will work closely with schematics, diagrams, and written instructions to complete their tasks effectively. In this role, the technician will engage in a variety of assembly operations, which may include both repetitive and non-repetitive tasks. They will utilize hand tools, power tools, and calibration equipment to perform their duties. The technician will also be responsible for conducting quality inspections on both in-process and completed work, ensuring that all products meet the required specifications. This includes making continuity checks and monitoring quality control procedures. The technician may also be involved in disassembling, modifying, and reworking assemblies as needed, following specific guidelines and under simulated conditions. The position requires a strong understanding of troubleshooting and inspection techniques, as well as the ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics. The technician will need to maintain accurate production records and assist other assemblers as necessary to ensure the successful completion of projects. Overall, this role is critical to the production process, requiring attention to detail, manual dexterity, and effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Hand solder SMT components under a microscope and traditional stereo equipment.
  • Perform a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
  • Determine methods and sequences of assembly operations where complete information is not readily available.
  • Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to assemble hardware and electronic devices.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, calibration tools, and test equipment.
  • Make continuity checks and conduct quality inspections on work in process and completed work.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
  • Disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental/prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications.
  • Follow procedures to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Prepare logs and maintain production records.
  • Assist Assemblers as necessary to get the job done.
  • Perform all other work as directed, and all tasks incidental to the successful performance of this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in assembly, specifically with SMT hand soldering.
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools including wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and soldering irons.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of troubleshooting, testing, and inspection techniques.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
