Making sketches by hand or on the computer to communicate design concepts. Overseeing design development, alongside the product development team.
Analyzing trends in fabrics colors and shapes to best fit customer needs. Working closely with merchandising/brand teams for assortment planning. Working in an organized manner and displaying a sense of urgency with the ability to meet deadlines under the pressure of timelines.
Complete understanding of fit. Attend all fit sessions pertaining to denim products working closely with the Technical Design partners to maintain initial vision and Brand fit. Providing inspiration, knowledge, motivation, and mentoring to Assistant and Associate Designers.
Other duties may be assigned. Oversee Denim Brands. Requirements: Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with an emphasis in Fashion Design or equivalent, and a minimum of 6-7 years related experience and/or practical training.
Computer Skills- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Language Skills- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other Qualifications: Strong leadership skills to lead Assistant and Associate Designer(s) to ensure that designs and resulting product are appropriate for the customer.
Strong work ethic and positive attitude; desire to establish collaborative relationships to achieve team objectives; ability to tolerate diverse viewpoints. Strong sense of creativity and conceptualization; An eye for color, texture, and pattern; Advanced knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), U4ia, &Microsoft Office; Proficient drawing abilities, either by hand or computer; Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and work within a budget; Technical skills in areas such as garment construction, pattern, and fit; Strong knowledge of fabrics and wash finishes; Ability to visualize things in three dimensions; Desire to follow trends in fashion and clothing; Business skills, organizational skills, and commercial awareness.
