About the Role:

 

Reporting to the Chief Maintenance Supervisor, General Maintenance Supervisor, and the Maintenance Unit Supervisor the selected candidate will supervise the Housekeeping and B&GA staff consisting of General Maintainers, Building and Ground Attendants, and associated crafts. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, implementing, directing, scheduling, and coordinating the work of skilled, semi-skilled and entry level unit crafts persons. Tasks include all facility roadway sweeping, refuse removal, trash clean-up, mechanical sweeping, maintained to FAR 139 standards. Fence line litter removal, public land litter removal, building grounds keeping, snow removal, responding to emergencies including but not limited to motor vehicles accidents, plane problems i.e. tire blowouts, hydraulic leaks, and seasonal weather problems.

The selected candidate will also be responsible for monitoring their performance, follow up and ensure all work is completed safely within Port Authority Rules and Regulations and accepted trade procedures, as well as administer provisions for the labor agreements and sick absence control policies. The successful candidate will initiate and provide administrative support to their section including but not limited to scheduling of time off, initiating employee discipline, identifying, training and developmental needs, understanding of budget control and contract administration.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ideal candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • Manage the attendance and disciplinary requirements of staff by utilizing available measures in a timely fashion in accordance with union agreements and agency policy.
  • Manage the activities of maintenance personnel and the care of maintenance equipment.
  • Participate in the snow removal plan; schedule, coordinate, observe and maintain snow training procedures/records for personnel.
  • Ability to proactively instill safe work habits, work independently, display initiative, good judgment, and decisiveness.

The successful candidate must be able to pass a fingerprint-based Criminal History Check as mandated by 49CFR 1542 and will be required to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) ID card with DR-2 Airfield Driving and escort privileges.

The selected candidate is required to participate in the Airport Snow Removal Program and must be able to respond to other emergency activities on a 24 hour/7 day a week basis, and must be available to work any shift necessary, including weekends and holidays and work overtime as a regular function of the job.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Must have three (3) years of full-time, paid maintenance work experience, with 1 year of paid full-time supervisory experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required.
  • All applicants that meet the above qualifications and have been selected for an interview, must also be qualified on a Port Authority Entry-Level Assessment (ESA) test prior. This test assesses supervisory skills and will be administered virtually.

  • Ability to coordinate work with other craft groups and to organize several jobs simultaneously.
  • Ability to supervise work of subordinates and train new employees.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational, managerial and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn the FAR 139 Regulations regarding the maintenance airfield operations.
  • Experience in preparation/administration of budgets
  • Maintain a positive attitude and meet the priorities and standards of the agency
