Position Summary
The analyst will work closely with teammates, peers, and management on various accounting and reporting activities including preparation of internal and external reporting, monthly journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis. The analyst will interact frequently with various groups to support these activities and other transactions and decisions. The position will analyze and research ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and effectively prepare presentations for management review and decision making. Employee must have strong technical knowledge and research capabilities to ensure compliance with GAAP and FERC.
This position works closely with internal teams within the overall Controller’s organization as Investor Relations, Finance, Rates & Regulatory, Legal, Treasury and Tax to ensure complete and accurate financial statements. Effective communication and relationship building are crucial to succeed in this role. Responsibilities of this role also include leading projects, setting priorities, and special projects as needed. Employees at this level work independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and demonstrated ability to work to solve complex problems/issues. Incumbents also provide advice and direction to less experienced employees.
This is the fifth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Progression to this level is typically restricted on the basis of business need. Employees at this level solve complex problems and interpret internal or external business issues and recommend solutions. Incumbents provide leadership (advising and providing direction) to others in financial areas of specialization, and will coordinate daily work activities and review the work of other teammates. Employee may also regularly lead projects. Employee works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations. Incumbent has specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly and quarterly internal and external reports
Cash flow preparation and review
Journal entry and account reconciliation preparation and review
Assist with SOX documentation and control updates and monitoring
Primary contact for SEC and other corporate reporting
Coordination of data to support quarterly / annual Investor Relations presentations
Provide review and support to other team members
Assist with data requests from SEC reporting, internal and external auditors and other customers
Prepare and review schedules used for SEC financials
Ensure that GAAP and FERC reporting requirements are met
Document significant accounting issues and conclusions
Provide accounting support as needed for non-routine transactions as well as large strategic initiatives
Understand and maintain proper business and financial processes to ensure adherence to internal controls and policies
Be a resource and provide training when applicable to less experienced analysts
Identify process improvements and assist in implementation to produce efficiencies at all stages of the accounting process
Required/Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
Five (5) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
Desired Qualifications
Masters degree in Accounting or Business Administration
In addition to desired degree, 8 years related work experience
CPA
Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
Effective communication, both oral and written, and collaboration skills
Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft FMIS, OneStream, Power Plant, etc.) and query tool (Business Objects)
CPA or CPA candidate or Graduate degree in Accounting, Business or related fields
Previous experience with internal/external reporting
Strong communication skills
Strong Microsoft Excel skills using advanced formulas to perform analytics and streamline work tasks
Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners
Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong technical accounting knowledge
Experience with accounting research tools, such as DART (Deloitte Accounting Research Tool), PWC Inform, or other
Previous experience in utility, utility asset or regulatory accounting environment.
Experience with monthly close process, general accounting, and financial reporting (FERC/GAAP)
Ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedules

Working & Other Conditions:
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the assigned Duke Energy facility.
