Die Cast Setup/Process Tech

Summary

Polaris Monticello is looking for an ambitious and experienced Die Cast Setup/Process Technician to be a part the team that operates in a die casting, machining, and assembly facility comprising of numerous CNC machining centers, an impreg system, numerous assembly machines, multiple leak testers, two 2500T Buhler machines, StrikoWestofen melting and dosing furnaces, ABB robot extract and spray and associated peripherals. 

The position activities will be exciting and wide-ranging, from optimizing processes to setting up machines to safely produce high-quality parts. This position requires an individual with a background in high-pressure die casting.

 

 

Responsibilities

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Setup

  • Preparing tools for production, including properly setting up and qualifying the tooling.
  • Loading dies into machines and verifying settings by measuring positions and following setup documentation.
  • Performing in-process inspections of tooling setup and accurately completing the required paperwork (i.e., the Setup Checklist)
  • Documenting and communicating between shifts any actions taken (e.g., changes, concerns) on tooling and machine operations.
  • Maintaining work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and following specified safety procedures at all times.

 

Process

  • Documenting new and current processes, including process changes, and ensuring process documentation is complete and accurate. This is completed electronically.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partnering with Manufacturing Engineering & Die Cast Production teams to resolve process & cell issues including but not limited to: machine maintenance, machine downtime, broken tooling, part transferring, part deflashing, part deburring, and non-conforming material.
  • Partnering with Manufacturing Engineering team to implement and support LEAN initiatives, including but not limited to: OPM, PM, spare parts, containerization, idea boards, 5S, one-piece flow, and value stream mapping.
  • Assisting with the identification of root causes and corrective actions for quality improvement.
  • Working with Environmental, Health & Safety team to identify opportunities and facilitate activities to improve safety environment.

 

Knowledge (The What)

CORE KNOWLEDGE

  • Understanding of die casting principles, including but not limited to: tooling, machines, maintenance, process, common issues.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Further education (including classes, certificates, or degrees) in manufacturing, casting, AutoCAD/SolidWorks or robotics preferred.

HELPFUL KNOWLEDGE (Not Required)

  • Understanding of motorcycle and powersports industries.


Experience & Skills (The How to Do)

CORE EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • 5+ years of experience in die casting required. This role requires skills acquired through exposure to/experience with large, technical die casting machines and requires the ability to troubleshoot safely and efficiently.
  • Experience with high-pressure aluminum casting preferred.
  • Proficiency with various measuring tools required. Responsibilities require using measurement tools to complete machine setups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) required. Responsibilities require the ability to document processes electronically.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication required. Responsibilities require the ability to effectively communicate process changes.

Working Conditions

PPE REQUIREMENTS

  • This role requires the use of the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): safety-toed boot or shoe, safety glasses, ear plugs, fire retardant long-sleeve shirt (including hi-vis), cut-resistant gloves, cap with forward-facing bill.

ENVIRONMENT

Definitions: Constant (6-10 hrs./shift); Occasional (up to 2 hrs./shift)
