Senior Registered Nurse - Corrections Kays Towers (6P-6:30A)
About the position
The Senior Registered Nurse at Kays Towers plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care within the corrections environment. This position requires a licensed professional who utilizes the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery effectively. The RN will assess patients, identify nursing diagnoses based on their responses to health problems, and develop and implement individualized care plans. The role emphasizes the importance of evaluating patient responses to care and ensuring a smooth transition through the healthcare encounter, minimizing preventable complications or delays. The RN will also delegate interventions to healthcare personnel in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act, considering each patient's condition and the competencies of the staff involved. In addition to direct patient care, the RN is expected to maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external customers, serving as a resource for patients and other healthcare team members. The RN will provide educational information and training to patients and their families, and may also participate in community outreach activities such as health fairs and outreach clinics. Documentation is a critical aspect of this role, requiring accurate and timely entries in patient care records and hospital documents to meet departmental standards and objectives. The RN will work collaboratively with other staff, providing direction to non-nursing personnel and participating in information exchanges that support the mission and goals of Parkland Health and Hospital System. The RN may also serve as a preceptor or trainer for newer nursing staff members, contributing to the development of the nursing team.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient care delivery by the healthcare team using the nursing process.
- Assess patients and identify nursing diagnoses based on their health responses.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care for patients.
- Evaluate patients' responses to care and adjust plans as necessary.
- Delegate interventions to healthcare personnel according to the Texas Nursing Practice Act.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external customers.
- Serve as a resource for patients and healthcare team members regarding clinical care issues.
- Provide patient care educational information and training to patients and families.
- Complete appropriate documentation and maintain accurate patient care records.
- Participate in community outreach activities as assigned.
- Provide direction to non-nursing staff and serve as a Charge Nurse on rotation as necessary.
- Serve as a preceptor or trainer to newer nursing staff members.

Requirements
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Must have two years of nursing experience.
- Must have a current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license.
- Must have a current healthcare provider BLS course completion card from an approved organization.
