The Lower School Nurse is a full-time, 10-month position responsible for the daily operation of the Lower School health clinic, including medication administration and providing first aid and subsequent treatment to injured and/or ill students in Pre-First through fifth grade and to faculty/staff. The ideal candidate will bring a strong sense of humor, initiative and flexibility and will enjoy providing care to young children. The ability to work independently, confidence in decision-making skills, a strong sense of general nursing care for Lower School students, punctuality, self-motivation and commitment to the work schedule are essential.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Administers medical care for sick and injured students
- Develops individual treatment plans for continuing care or observation
- Dispenses prescribed medications to students as ordered by a physician
- Provides health education to students, parents, faculty and staff as appropriate
- Assists the school staff, faculty, students and parents/caregivers in understanding and managing student health issues
- Consults with other nurses, school staff/faculty, health care providers, parents/caregivers and students on health issues as appropriate
- Obtains and files a current and complete health form and vaccination record for each student for each school year
- Maintains a daily record of student interventions and coordinates reports with other Pace Academy nurses
- Is part of and assists the Lower School Student Life team as needed
- May be required to chaperone field trips, including overnight trips
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
- Current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse
- CPR certification
- Knowledge of scoliosis, immunizations, hearing/vision screening techniques
- Knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of care in accordance with State policy and Nurse Practice Act
- Ability to perform CPR and utilize an AED machine
- Must be knowledgeable of federal, state and local laws, regulations, and/or processes as related to providing healthcare services and regarding appropriate first-aid techniques
- Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks and apply critical-thinking skills
- Love of young children and their development
- A positive outlook, flexibility and the ability to collaborate effectively with school personnel, parents/caregivers and diverse groups of people
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion and integrity
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Job Classification: 10-Month, Exempt
Working Conditions:
- Office environment may be noisy with frequent interruptions
- Regular exposure to infectious material/diseases
- Regular exposure to chemicals/solvents
- Must bend, stoop and crouch
- May have to lift and carry 50-60 pounds with assistance
